The 2010 WINTER OLYMPICS START NOW!

Friday February 12th, 2010 (4:20 pm)

Crucial Blog Entry # 50

After years of planning and preparing, The 2010 Winter Olympic Games begin tonight in Vancouver. Let The Games Begin...

I felt such a sense of excitement and Canadian Pride this morning thinking that this would be THE BEST WINTER OLYMPICS EVER, not only for Canada, but for the sporting world and for the all the athletes competing.

All that changed hours ago when I learned of the tragic accident and death of NODAR KUMARITASHVILI, 21, from Georgia, in a horrific accident on the luge course on Blackcomb Mountain in Whistler.

The luge course in Whistler is the fastest course ever created and raced on.

I think it would be a tragic mistake to race on Saturday right after an accident of this magnitude and maybe a 24 HOUR SAFETY CAUTION should be put into effect to examine all safety features and protected areas of this luge course.

Any other sport would not race, but the Olympic machine is not just any sport.

Rest In Peace Nodar and my deepest sympathies and condolences go out to your family, friends, loved ones and countrymen.
